Instagram is fun. There is so much you can do on the ‘Gram from sharing photos and videos to posting ephemeral Instagram Stories. As far as photos go, you could add filters if you are no too happy with your shots. You can add text and stickers and whatnot to your IG stories to make them more fun.
It is no wonder than more than a billion people have been drawn to Instagram and its many delights.
However, as far as Instagram fonts are concerned, you sadly do not have a lot of options. You only have choices when it comes to Instagram Stories, specifically you have five (a mere five!) options to choose from. When it comes to your bio, captions, and comments, Instagram only gives you one. Even if you are a mega-Instagram celebrity like Kylie Jenner or Selena Gomez, you are stuck with just one option for the usual Instagram posts and the measly five for your Stories.
But, did you know that you can actually access more fonts for your Instagram account?
Look no further! Because we are here to explain how to find and use custom Instagram fonts to add more fun and excitement to your bio or to create a more branded look for your ‘Gram.
The Need To Use Custom Instagram Fonts
The reasons for changing your Instagram font is two-fold: it scan be a personal decision or a branding choice if you want to convey a distinctive style for your Instagram persona or brand. Instagram as a whole is an excellent platform for creating a cohesive, branded portfolio, but not being able to match your fonts to your visual style or branding is indeed a limitation of the app. It can be frustrating for sure.
Since Instagram does not come with a built-in font customizer, you will be needing a third party app or tool which we will discuss in a bit.
With these tools to use custom Instagram fonts, once you are happy with how your text looks, all you need is to just copy and paste back to Instagram to update your name, bio, caption or comment.
You might think it is complicated because you would be needing a third party app or tool for custom Instagram fonts, but in reality, building a distinct visual brand on Instagram is quite easy! You can edit your photos in a consistent or curated way, upload cohesive Instagram Stories Highlights covers, and so much more.
The Best Tools For Using Custom Fonts On Instagram
Before anything else, you of course, would need an Instagram fonts tool or app. Lucky you, most of these reliable babies are free to download on your phone or navigate through your desktop computer! Aside from the fact that these tools and apps are free, using one of these Instagram font generators would allow you to test beforehand whether certain fonts are compatible with Instagram. So they take out the guesswork and save you time, energy, and effort.
The actual tool you choose does not matter that much because they work pretty much in the same with just some very slight differences in interface and steps. We are happy to report that there is not one that is particularly better or worse than the others.
So, here is a quick rundown of the five most popular apps and tools for customizing your Instagram fonts:
LingoJam (Web-based): This one is probably the most popular web-based Instagram font generator tool that you can use to generate cool text for your Instagram Stories, post, comments or bio. To use the tool, simply type in your text in the left section and get the cool text on the right. Afterwards, copy the text and paste it on your Instagram. It is as simple as that!
LingoJam has tons of options to change a simple text into something more exciting and attractive. All these options are on your right. Some will be more traditional and some more innovative and creative.
Fonts- For Instagram (Mobile app): We all know the drill- using a website on mobile is never, ever easy; therefore, for mobile users there is an app called Fonts – for Instagram for iPhone users. You can download a free version to make your captions more fun.To use this app you first need to pick the font and then key in the text. This helps you create cooler and more fun text with its repertoire of fonts that can be used for your Instagram. Plus, you can add emojis, too!
The advantage of going for mobile apps over website is that apps are easier to use. Besides, it seems a bit more apt, given that this is for Instagram.
Sprezz (Custom keyboard): For those using an iPhone, this is probably the easiest method. iPhone users can customize Instagram fonts to cooler text for your Instagram stories, comments, bio and more. There’s a slight drawback, though, Sprezz offers limited options compared to the others on this list.
Instagram Fonts (Web-based): With Instagram Fonts you can get cool fonts for Instagram and it works just like LingoJam.
Simply enter the text in the box and get cool Instagram fonts in the window below it.
As you probably might have already noticed, the only downside with web-based font generator tools for Instagram while you are on your smartphhone is that they are not that easy to use. Therefore, using a mobile app is a better idea if you are on your smartphone most of the time. In addition, mobile versions are just inherently much easier to use.
Adobe Spark Post (Mobile app): When you want to enhance and enliven social media images, add cool text and fonts, then Adobe Spark Post is the app that both Android and iPhone users can use (hooray for Android users!).
To use the app, all you need to do is to add a picture or open a post. Once done, tap on Font option to find different font styles to customize the font.
You can choose and preview the font that you like. Moreover, you can tweak them by shape, effect and more!
Once you have the template ready save it to your cameral roll and add the image to your Instagram story or post.
In addition to this if you want to add symbols to your text in Instagram Bio head to CoolSymbol.com select the symbol, copy and paste it into your Instagram. Easy peasy.
Customizing Instagram Fonts On Your Instagram Stories
As already mentioned, unlike the rest of Instagram, on Instagram Stories you get access to five different fonts, specifically classic, modern, neon, typewriter, and strong. But, as in more traditional Instagram, you can also be more playful by customizing your font choices.
You can use a graphic design tool like Canva, Typorama, or Font Candy. (There are actually a plethora of apps that let you add custom fonts to your Instagram Stories, but you should be able to get the look you want with one of the three apps mentioned above).
Start by opening the app (let us use Canva here) and scroll to the “Your Story” option. Here you can pick one of Canva’s Instagram Stories templates or the “Blank” option.
Upload a photo or background and then tap the “+” button in the bottom-right corner. Here, you can choose one from Canva’s text templates. Alternatively, if you want more control, select the “Add some text of your own” option. If you do this, you can change the size, alignment, line height, spacing, and much more.
Canva comes with a ton of different fonts, but it also allows you to upload your own brand fonts if you upgrade to a paid account.
Once you are satisfied with your creation, tap the download button in the top-right corner. Once you do this, the design will automatically save to your camera roll. Now, you can easily upload it to your Instagram Stories!
Customizing Instagram Fonts In A Video For Your Instagram Stories
You can still use a graphic design app like Hype Type, Videorama, and Vont. These let you add custom Instagram fonts to your videos (there are other apps that do the same, too). Let us use Hype Type as an example.
Start by opening the app and swiping-up to access your camera roll.
Once you find the video you want, tap the “T” button at the bottom of the screen. Here you will be able to pick from a collection of animated and non-animated texts. Once you are happy, tap the checkmark button and download the video to your camera roll. Afterwards, you can easily upload it as an Instagram Story.
A Few Reminders On Instagram Fonts Before You Go!
Before we let you go and play with customizing your Instagram fonts, we would just like to share a few tips on how you can avoid a custom Instagram font fail. Changing your Instagram text font can be fun and exciting. It can unleash your creativity, and it can definitely be a great branding decision. But, make sure you do not fall into the following three pitfalls, which are sadly too common on the ‘Gram:
1. Avoid Inconsistent Branding
Consistent branding is key to brand recall. So, if you are going to stick to the fonts already offered in Stories, just pick one that you will consistently use. Consistent branding also translates to a sleeker Instagram profile.
The beauty of Stories is that the content you put up there does not have to be polished or perfect every single time, but you should still keep everything as uniform and brand-recognizable as possible. If you are too busy and it is a choice between producing less-polished content and producing none at all, going with the former is still the way to go.
2. Make Sure That Your Audience Can Read Your Fonts
Customize your fonts all you want but stick to the ones which are easy to read. This is especially important for long captions. If descriptions are difficult to read, chances are your audience would not want to read your contents in their entirety anymore. Moreover, putting up difficult to read text can make your profile, and consequently your branding, look unprofessional.
3. Too Many Different Instagram Fonts: A Bad Idea
Sure, the aforementioned tools and apps offer a lot of font choices. However, do not fall into the temptation of using one font too many. Choose one or two that are close to your brand fonts and use those exclusively. This is a basic design rule for branding and it holds true for your social media accounts, too. If you cannot find fonts that complement your brand, it may be best to use native fonts.
Don’t Scrimp on an Upgrade- if you’re on IG for business, that is
Are you going to use a mobile app to create Instagram fonts for your business? Trust me, it pays to pay for an upgrade. The frequent ads can slow you down in creating time-bound content. This can be especially annoying if you are always on-the-go.
So there! We hope customizing Instagram fonts is now clearer to you! So what are you waiting for? Tinker with your Instagram account and make it even more fun and exciting with different fonts! Just do not forget our reminders and you are all set!
