Everyone wants Instagram followers. We wouldn’t join the app if we didn’t!
Whether you want 100 followers, or 1 million, you can use these tips and tricks to reach your Instagram follower goal.
Search For Your Friends And Family On Instagram
When you first join Instagram, it’s easy to find your friends and family. Kick start your Instagram followers list with people you know. They’ll be excited to see you’ve joined and definitely follow you back.
- Go to your Instagram profile.
- Click on the three bars in the top right.
- Click “Discover people”.
- You can find people from your contacts. Click “connect contacts”. You’ll find a list of them on Instagram if they have an account.
- Search for people to follow through the Suggested tab. This works best if you already follow some people. You might discover friends and family here, too.
With the algorithm, Instagram is sure to show you photos and videos from your friends and family first. You never need to miss a post from your faves!
Have An Amazing Instagram Feed
Most importantly of all, to gain Instagram followers, you need to have an eye-catching Instagram feed.
This can be black and white, retro, popping with color, all about plants, or all about you. However, it must be amazing.
@fredi_boldt has 110,000 Instagram followers. Her photos are bohemian, bright, happy and textured. Because she has a coherent Instagram theme, people know what they’re in for when they follow her account.
Make sure your Instagram brand is secure if you want to gain followers. Stick to one filter at a time to create a good theme.
Above all, post high-quality images. If you are posting blurry photos with bad angles, people aren’t going to follow you. You need to use your photography skills to stand out.
Your Instagram account doesn’t need to be about your daily life: what you eat, what you did, who you saw, what you wore. You can post about one thing and one thing only, such as home decor. People follow Instagram accounts for certain vibes or information these days.
No matter what you choose to post about, make sure it looks aesthetic.
Follow Other Accounts
People need to know you exist. One great way to do that is to say hello, whether that’s through following others, or even saying hi!
To gain Instagram followers, you need to be an Instagram follower first. Find some favorite accounts to follow and engage with them.
If they follow you back, awesome! The algorithm will show you each other’s photos if you are both engaging with one another.
When you go onto Instagram to post a photo, spend ten minutes engaging with other accounts before you post. That lets Instagram know you’re active, and the accounts you follow that you’ve got something coming up.
Once you’ve posted, continue to engage with others while also replying to comments on your own photo.
Shoutouts To Get Instagram Followers
Shoutouts are still a popular and great way to get Instagram followers!
You can ask a mutual friend to do a shoutout for shoutout. You both promote each other’s feeds in your Instagram stories by tagging the person. That way their followers can find you.
This works great if you do this with people who have similar accounts to you! If you are a mommy blogger, ask another mommy blogger to do a shoutout.
Another shoutout option is to host a shoutout session. You can post about this in your main feed and have a few rules.
Basically, your followers will shout your account out in their story in exchange for a shoutout. You can promise to shoutout 10 accounts, but you might get 500 people entering. This means you get 500 shoutouts, even though they might be from small accounts, and you only need to return 10.
Smaller accounts love entering these because it’s a chance to get a shoutout from a big account. Bonus for you, because you might get hundreds of shoutouts!
This is a great way to get Instagram followers.
Utilize Instagram Stories
Instagram stories are seen as both a blessing and a curse. Sure, we waste hours flicking through them, but they are a great way to get Instagram followers.
You can use the stickers on Instagram stories to engage with your audience. If you ask questions or host quizzes in your Instagram stories, you’ll see your view count increasing. Instagram will then feature you and your account in the explore page.
You can also play games in your Instagram stories to gain followers. You can host a follow train, or do shoutout Fridays. Everyone can participate!
You might want to try hosting challenges. The weekend is a great time to do this. For example, if you are a book blogger, you can have reading challenges on the weekend. Everyone has to read for 30 minutes and whoever reads the most amount of pages wins a shoutout!
Lastly, try creating templates for Instagram.
These are simple to make in apps like Unfold, Canva or Over. Make sure to include your username so when they start spreading around Instagram, people know where they came from. You can gain so many followers from creating amazing templates!
Work With Brands To Gain Instagram Followers
It’s an Instagrammer’s dream to work with their favorite brands online. You might find brands reaching out to you once you gain followers online.
However, you can also approach brands, too. When you work with brands, either on a paid or gifted basis, they will often use your image on their own account. If this brand has a huge following, this is a great chance for a shoutout! Many of their followers will check out your account. Say hello to new Instagram followers!
On the other hand, once a brand sees you working with brands online, they’ll often reach out to you as well. There comes a point in being an Instagrammer where everything clicks into place. This might be when you hit 3,000 followers or 300,000, but you will get there if you follow all these steps.
Hashtags, hashtags, hashtags! The holy grail of Instagram. Many people find hashtags confusing, but they’re actually quite simple.
Unfortunately, people still use hashtags wrong all the time. In fact, they use them as part of their captions. For example, they might write a caption such as:
“Had a great time at the Smith wedding this weekend, until I came home to find my dog had puked everywhere. #whyohwhybuddyboy”
#Whyohwhybuddyboy is more part of the caption than anything. It’s definitely not a hashtag. No one is going to find your account from this hashtag because nobody else uses it!
Hashtags are meant for discovering other accounts, and having other accounts discover you.
Of course, you don’t want to use hashtags with 5 million hits like #londonlife, but you also don’t want to use hashtags with 2,000 hashtags like #londoniscool. Instead, search for hashtags that have been used less than 1 million times, such as #london_enthusiast.
The top results in this search include big accounts and small accounts! So even if you have 1,000 followers, you have a good chance of being discovered through this size of hashtag.
If you want to gain Instagram followers, use the right hashtags! With all of these tips, you’ll be sure to grow your Instagram following in no time. Stay active, post frequently and create amazing content.
