To be successful on Instagram, you must have good engagement. To create good engagement, of course, you need to produce quality content, have a good relationship with your audience, be consistent and work hard. However, one quick easy way to increase engagement on any given day is to ask questions on Instagram.
Whether this is through your Instagram story or feed, we’ll give the best tips and tricks to use questions to increase engagement on your Instagram account.
Ask A Question In Instagram Posts
When you’re writing your Instagram captions, there is a lot to think about. In fact, captions can often be more difficult than the actual photo. If you have taken a photo you’re really proud of, it’s not easy to think of an equally exciting caption! Of course, sometimes a photo can definitely speak for itself. Some successful Instagram accounts don’t even bother creating an engaging caption and they still get a lot of traffic to their Instagram.
@brookeandpeony used a very short and sweet Instagram caption on this photo and still got awesome engagement. However, she could probably get a lot more comments if she asked her followers a direct question!
For example, @stefiereads takes time for most of her posts to ask her followers a question. Here, she asked her followers about their autumnal decorating plans! Of course, this is great because it goes along with her photo perfectly. Not only is the photo beautiful, but people stop and listen to her decorating tips because of how lovely her room looks.
Asking questions in your Instagram captions is a sure way to increase engagement and make your followers feel like friends!
What Kind Of Questions Should I Ask?
Now that you’ve decided to engage more with your followers by asking them questions on Instagram, it’s important to think about what kind of questions you ask.
This definitely goes along with what kind of content you create. If you are a fashion blogger, talking about clothes, styles, confidence, and different brands is awesome.
If you are a home decor blogger, you can talk about where your home is, decorating, lifestyle and much more.
On the other hand, it’s okay to throw in a surprise question every now and then! If you’re a fashion blogger, every now and then ask people about their other hobbies or tell them about a movie you’ve recently seen.
Everyone has lots of different interests so use the questions to reveal a lot more about yourself on Instagram.
For example, @hayaisreading asked a question about reading or watching anything spooky during October. This goes great with her photo because it’s a very autumnal Halloween themed photo. With the pumpkin, hot cocoa and orange glow, this question is perfect to ask her followers!
Of course, asking questions like this increases engagement because not only do you have a better relationship with your followers, but your followers can get a better relationship with each other! They can browse the comments, too, to see if there’s anything spooky that sounds interesting for them to read or watch this October!
Ask questions on Instagram that go with your photo by looking at the objects, items, and vibes within the photo. Like Haya, take the theme of the photo – which, in this case, is Halloween – and come up with a creative question to ask. Of course, just because you have hot chocolate in the photo doesn’t mean you have to ask a direct question about hot chocolate. Instead, think about what hot chocolate represents: coziness, autumn, self-care time, sweetness, and winter. Then come up with a question related to that!
On the other hand, you can ask questions unrelated to the Instagram photo. Doing this every so often gives you a lot of creative freedom. You don’t always need to be tied to the image. In fact, your followers will like being asked a random question every now and then! It keeps things excited.
Once your followers realize that your Instagram captions are fun and engaging, they’ll flock back frequently to check what you’ve got to say on Instagram.
In this caption, @womanon asks her followers a question unrelated to the image. She got great engagement in the comments, too! Of course, an obvious question would be related to the book or autumn. However, to ask a surprising question is a really awesome thing to do on Instagram from time to time.
So, if you’re looking for a fun engaging way to increase your engagement, definitely ask questions on Instagram. Just make sure to respond to your followers! There’s no point in asking them a question and never responding to their comments.
Ask A Question On Instagram Stories
Instagram stories are tricky. People tend to flick through them when they’re bored and not take too much notice. That’s why it’s important to make your Instagram stories both beautiful and engaging.
Taking screenshots or quick shots isn’t enough to create engaging story content. Make use of filters and third-party apps like Unfold or Storyluxe. Edit your Instagram story photos and videos to fit with the theme of your Instagram, so that people relate it back to you!
Of course, having done all these things, it’s super important to also utilize all the Instagram story stickers.
You’re familiar with the poll option, gifs, and emojis! But Instagram has a lot more options such as quizzes, countdowns and of course, the question sticker.
We’ll focus on the question sticker today and how to use it.
1. Take A Photo Or Video For Your Instagram Story
You’ll need to take a good quality image for your Instagram story as previously mentioned. This will grab people’s attention and keep them focused on your story! Once you have the photo, add it to your story from your camera roll.
2. Add Question Sticker
From the top, click the sticker icon. It looks like a square smiley face. You’ll see all the options for your Instagram story. Click the one that says “Questions”.
Instagram is all about letting people be as creative as possible! Lots of details are customizable on Instagram, including all the stickers.
First, add the question you want to ask. Let’s start with a simple one: What are your weekend plans?
Next, choose the color for your sticker icon by clicking the color wheel at the top. Some accounts only have the option of a few colors, while other accounts have the privilege of choosing any color! This feature is being rolled out slowly.
You have the option for your followers to answer with text or a song. Let’s stick to the text option for today.
Once you’ve chosen all the details, move the box to wherever you want it to be on the screen. Keep it somewhere in the middle so when followers click it, they aren’t taken back or forward in your stories.
Add to your story!
4. Check Responses
It’s easy to check responses. Once the story has been up for a little while, visit the frame in which you asked a question. Swipe up on the frame and swipe along to the page with the number of people that have seen the story. It has a little eyeball icon next to it.
Click ‘see all’.
Scroll down through your Instagram question responses.
5. Share Question Responses
Of course, if you ask questions on Instagram, your followers will be interested in the answers. They will also be interested in your reaction to the answers, especially if you’ve asked a controversial question!
It’s important to share at least some of the answers back to your Instagram story.
Simply click the response you want to share.
You will have three options:
- Message the follower directly.
- Share the response in your story.
- Delete the response.
If you share the response, the sticker comes up like this.
You can now take a photo to put the answer on or upload one from your camera roll.
Remember, keep the frame aesthetic so that people are more likely to engage!
Be sure to add your text as a response and share it straight back to your story. You can also record a selfie video where you speak in response to the answers. Whatever you want to do, it’s up to you!
Don’t spam your followers with all the answers. Maybe choose 5-10 really good answers. You can even go the extra mile and create a list of all the answers to share with your followers.
Overall, ask questions on Instagram to increase engagement and build a better relationship with your followers! This is a great tip for business, influencers, and personal Instagrammers.
