One of Instagram’s biggest downfalls is that it’s so tricky to contact Instagram. Of course, there are situations where you feel you need to contact them. Maybe your account has been hacked, or you have been temporarily blocked. Or maybe you notice glitching or spam on your account. Whatever the reason, we’ll help you find the best way to get the answers.
Instagram used to have a helpline via email. Personally, I used it myself when I was logged out of my account! It was great to be connected to a real person and get practical help and advice. They were able to do an identity test to match me to my account. Once they did that, they gave me a link to reset my Instagram password and I was able to log back into my account.
Unfortunately, now when you try to contact Instagram, don’t expect a personal response from Instagram. With over 1 billion users, it’s hard to imagine a successful help center.
Facebook owns Instagram, and Facebook is in the top 100 companies in the world. It’s an even bigger company than Disney! Since Facebook owns Instagram, you can count that Instagram is a huge company, too. So it’s understandable that it’s difficult to contact them directly.
However, there are great self-help resources that have most of the answers you’ll ever need. You just have to do a little more hunting than you would if there was a help email for Instagram!
Of course, if you are looking for general tips and tricks for Instagram, sign up for an Instagram smart bot like Kenji. Kenji can help you gain followers and grow your account so that you can focus on the content creating and having fun on your Instagram journey!
Take A Risk
If you really feel like reaching out to Instagram personally before trying the rest of the tips, then you can message @Instagram on Instagram. Feel free to send them a direct message about whatever your question or problem is. If you’re really lucky, they might get back to you!
Of course, this isn’t something you can rely on so it’s important to familiarise yourself with the other ways to get solutions to all your Instagram related problems!
Report A Problem Through The App
You can contact Instagram through the app if you need to report a problem or give general feedback.
- Go to Instagram settings from your profile.
- Click Help.
- Click report a problem.
- Choose “Spam or Abuse”, “Something Isn’t Working” or “General Feedback”.
- Leave your feedback and click “Send”.
You’ll get a thank you message but no guarantee that they’ll respond. Hopefully, they’ll at least read and consider what you’ve written. This is the best option if you have an issue with seeing too many ads, bullying on your account or spam. If you have a super-specific question, do this and one of our other solutions just in case Instagram doesn’t respond.
Visit The Help Center
From the Instagram settings, you can visit the help center which has solutions to lots of topics and problems you’ll face on Instagram. While it’s not getting in touch with Instagram directly, they’ve set it up to cover many frequent issues people encounter within the app. If you need to contact Instagram about something, check here first because it’s likely that your problem will be listed.
The help center has answers to almost everything. On stories alone, there are about 30 pieces of advice. You’ll likely find most of your queries answered here!
Some topics include:
- Adding a chat sticker to your story
- Managing your account
- Controlling your visibility
- Delete a promoted Instagram story
- Tips for uploading, recording and editing your story
- Avoiding scams on Instagram
Simply type in the keyword for a problem you’re having and it’s sure to come up!
Privacy And Security Help
Besides the report a problem and help center options in settings, there is also now “Privacy and Security Help”. This brings you to a separate help center which is targeted for topics on privacy and security.
For example, one issue is reporting underage users on Instagram. It gives you the topic title and then a short, easy to read, piece of advice surrounding the topic.
Another one would be two-factor authentication. If you’re worried about your account being hacked, then this is a brilliant tip.
In our personal opinion, everyone should have their two-factor authentication turned on! What this means is extra security when logging into your Instagram. When you log in, Instagram will send a six-digit number to your personal phone number for you to verify it’s you logging in.
This stops your account from being hacked. Of course, a hacker probably wouldn’t have access to your phone. Therefore, you’re much safer with turning this on!
Another few options include:
- Blocking accounts
- Removing followers
- Filtering comments
- Choosing who can see your story
- Choosing who can reply to your story
This page gives you ultimate control over your Instagram! With these details sorted out, it’s unlikely you’ll need to contact Instagram because your account is secure and personalized as you’d like it to be.
Contact Instagram On Other Platforms
Instagram has Twitter, Instagram and Facebook which you could certainly try messaging. Simply send them a direct message and wait for their response. It’s unlikely that you’ll get a response but it’s definitely worth a try.
If you have a lot of followers, perhaps getting them to also message Instagram about you, or for you, could work, too.
Find Answers Through The Experts
It’s official: Instagram’s help solutions aren’t great. However, there are lots of great resources available to help you find the answers to your questions!
First, try Googling your Instagram related questions. Simply type in the problem you’re facing and watch the thousands of results appear. Whether your question is about a hacked account, algorithm advice or using new Instagram features, there will be somebody posting about it online.
There are people who specialize in Instagram and using the app. Often times, their answers are just as beneficial as the ones you’d get from Instagram directly! There is a huge community of people who can help you, including other Instagram users.
One of the biggest questions surrounding Instagram nowadays is definitely the algorithm. Instagram specifically doesn’t talk too much about this online so we have to rely on Instagrammers to do the research and put together resources for other Instagrammers to understand the algorithm. Thankfully, there are a lot of people online who specialize in this. Every week or so, new videos go onto YouTube about the algorithm. In reality, the algorithm probably doesn’t change too much more than twice a year.
If you’re looking for algorithm advice, check out this video about the 2019 algorithm, since this won’t be found in the Instagram contact help center.
Almost every topic can be found online or on YouTube regarding Instagram. There are even videos related specifically to being a teacher on Instagram! So whether you’re an influencer, a shoe business, a traveler, or a teacher, type that into YouTube to find some extra tips that you won’t find within the Instagram app.
While it might be frustrating that you can’t contact Instagram directly, both Instagram and experts have created great resources to help you solve all of your Instagram related problems so you’ll definitely find the help you need online!
