Instagram is a great platform to promote things like a shop, YouTube channel, blog or products! To do this, you’ll want to know how to post a link on Instagram so it’s easy for your followers to check out the things you’re sharing online.
What Should I Link On Instagram?
Before we get into the “how-to” of Instagram links, let’s talk about what kind of things you could share on Instagram.
Instagram has over 1 billion users so it’s a great place to do promotion, no matter what you’re promoting.
If you are a YouTuber, then use Instagram to promote your channel! Every time you post a new video, you can add a link so your followers can go straight to YouTube and watch your new video. They won’t even have to leave the Instagram app to do this!
You can use Instagram to create hype around your new YouTube videos. When you add a link, it creates a call to action right then and there so you hopefully get a lot more traffic right away on your YouTube channel.
Your Online Store
Instagram is the number one choice for sharing your online shop with the world. Because Instagram is such a visual platform, most shop owners will use the app to create an online gallery of their shop. It’s important to have a link to your shop in your bio.
Suzy Shattuck keeps a link to her shop in her Instagram bio. This will encourage new followers to check out her shop when they discover her Instagram page!
When you have new products or a sale, you can also post a link on Instagram stories, too.
If you’re working with a brand on a sponsored post, they’ll often ask you to link their shop. You can put this in your bio or in your stories (if you have enough followers). Be sure to check this in advance with the brand, as it’s a big commitment when you might already have your bio link reserved for your own platforms!
For example, @mylittlebooktique has a link to a jewelry store with whom she partners in her bio. Of course, this is worth it if you make a percentage of all the sales you generate through Instagram! However, weigh up the cost if it means no one is visiting your YouTube channel anymore.
Other Social Media
Perhaps you’re active on Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook or something else! Be sure to link to it often on Instagram so your followers can follow you elsewhere. This will really help build up a community of followers across platforms.
Link On Instagram To Your Blog Or Website
A lot of big Instagrammers have blogs! This is especially popular if their Instagram profile has a certain theme, such as home decor. They will coincide with a blog also about home decor, where they have a chance to go into more detail on home decor. Definitely use your links on Instagram to keep your followers up to date with new posts! Use your Instagram bio to link to your blog or website so you have more traffic.
Other Options For What To Link On Instagram
Besides these options, you can always link to your email address for brand deals, favorite accounts of yours, your Amazon page (where you can share all your favorite products), or events that you’re planning. There’s an unlimited amount of options for how to utilize your Instagram link!
How To Post A Link In Instagram Bio
Posting a link into your Instagram bio is easy. However, you can only post one link, so choose wisely!
- Open the Instagram app.
- Go to your profile.
- Click “Edit Profile”.
- At “website”, paste in the link you want to share with your followers.
- In the last line of your bio, refer to what the link is. For example, you can write “YouTube Channel Below” or “Click the link to shop in my online store”. You want to make sure that your link is clear!
- Click done. Your link is ready to go!
If you have a business profile on Instagram, every week you’ll be able to see how many people clicked your link. View your insights, then click “Activity”. If you scroll down, you’ll be able to see your interactions for that week. If you notice your website clicks are dropping, make sure you include more calls to actions in your Instagram captions to bump up your link activity!
Cheat For Posting More Than One Link On Instagram
As mentioned, you can only post one link in your bio on Instagram. Of course, this isn’t ideal for someone who has an online shop and a YouTube channel.
You might find yourself switching out every week between your platforms to make sure that all your platforms get their spotlight!
Or you could use these really awesome cheats for posting more than one link on Instagram.
There is a website called Linktree which allows you to post more than one link within your Instagram bio.
For example, @bethsbookshelf uses her Linktree to link her followers to a lot of different sites. When you click on an Instagrammer’s Linktree, a page like this will pop up.
If you click on any of the rectangles, you’ll then be taken to the actual web page for each individual link. This is an absolutely magical tool! Especially if you’re working with a brand that wants you to link to their promotion for a certain amount of time, you can do so without sacrificing your own personal links. This way, everything is fair!
You can easily add and remove links from your Linktree whenever you like.
The best part? It’s completely free!
Another awesome option for sharing more than one link on Instagram is Bio.fm.
Bio.fm is a beautifully designed and easy to use tool that lets you import content from almost any platform – Facebook, Twitter, Medium, Spotify, YouTube, and more – into one simple link in bio.
And just like Linktree, there’s no fee to use it! The free version includes three customizable blocks, and a paid premium is available if you want to add on even more blocks.

How To Post Link On Instagram Story
Finally, we’ll discuss how to add links elsewhere on Instagram, including your Instagram story.
You’ve probably seen your favorite stores and influencers add swipe up links to their stories! For example, they’ll share a video of them in a dress and add a swipe up link so you can also shop the exact same outfit.
Perhaps when you go to your Instagram story to try the same thing, you don’t have the option to add a link.
That’s because you need to be verified on Instagram or have 10,000 followers.
So swipe-up links on Instagram stories are bonus features for the most successful Instagrammers! While this may seem annoying, it actually makes a lot of sense.
Swipe-up links are most used by brands when promoting a new product. It’s an immediate call to action. Shoppers can quickly add an item to their cart, check out, and go right back to browsing Instagram within minutes.
When brands work with you, they’ll likely look at your follower account. A lot of brands only choose influencers with more than 10,000 followers. Therefore, they also get the added bonus of asking that influencer to include a swipe-up link on Instagram that will hopefully boost their sales!
However, there is one exception to a swipe-up link for those who aren’t verified or have over 10,000 followers. Anyone can add a swipe-up link to their IGTV videos!
This makes filming and posting IGTV videos more appealing because anyone can easily share them with their followers.
Follow these steps to link your IGTV videos to your stories:
- First, you must upload an IGTV video. Once the upload is complete, you’ll be able to link to your video in your stories.
- Prepare or take a photo to share in your stories.
- Once you’ve chosen the photo, click the link icon at the top of the page, between the sticker icons.
- Click “+ IGTV video” and choose from the videos.
- Click “Done”.
- The call to action is now added. Share your Instagram story and watch the views roll in on your video!
If you want to add a link, follow these exact same steps except paste a link from elsewhere rather than adding an IGTV.
Once you’ve added a link on Instagram stories, you can view how many people click the link by looking at your story insights.
More people will add your link if you create more attention around the link. Make sure to add some text to your Instagram story saying swipe up, so your followers know!
While you need to be verified or have 10,000 followers to include a swipe-up link, all the other options are available to any Instagram user! So be sure to utilize this great tool to drive more traffic amongst your platforms.
