Everyone wants to be Instagram famous. Post a few times a week, make some money, and then have the rest of your time to yourself! There really is no better way of life.
However, getting there isn’t as easy as it sounds. It can take years of hard work before you can rely on your income from Instagram.
We’ll give you the steps to getting there, but it’s up to you to put in the hard work!
Who Is Instagram Famous?
There are people who have made their careers from Instagram. They started there, built a following and are now Instagram famous!
Of course, many of them use Instagram as a platform to go and do something else, such as write a book, start a YouTube channel, create an app or even start a business.
It’s a good idea to have an end goal in mind, even further than just your Instagram fame.
Tana Ashlee is a weight loss specialist who came to fame through Instagram. She now boasts 1.5 million followers!
She posts real and honest captions, along with follow-along videos of her favorite workouts!
Amelia came to Instagram fame in 2014 when she started her account as an art project to prove that what you see online is not based on real life.
Now she posts arty shots to her 158,000 followers. She has been verified on Instagram, too!
Brittany Furlan came to fame through Vine, but when that app fizzled out, she brought her humor over to Instagram. She’s now Instagram famous with over 2.6 million followers!
She posts funny videos, memes, and pictures. She also posts serious photos and lovely selfies from time to time, too!
Along with Instagram, she has her own podcast. As seen, it’s great to use your Instagram fame as a platform for other projects!
These are just a few examples of the many people who have become Instagram famous. Now, we’ll take you through the steps to getting there yourself!
1. Plan Ahead
Like any good business plan, you’ll need to plan ahead to achieve Instagram fame, too. It won’t happen by chance, and it definitely won’t happen overnight.
Look at accounts that inspire you and make a collection of them! Ask yourself what you like about them, what you dislike about them, what you might do similarly, or even differently.
You need to think about what your account is going to represent. Maybe it’ll tell a story, inspire others, share something unique, or be a safe place for people to share the same passions as you.
No matter what you choose to share on your Instagram account, have a plan in advance.
You even want to think further than just Instagram. What happens once you hit the 100,000 followers mark? What’s the long term plan? Why do you want to become Instagram famous?
2. Share Your Passions
It might seem like the obvious path to follow: yoga pants, aesthetic buildings, green drinks, outfits of the day, inspirational quotes, organized flat lays. But if none of that ignites you, then don’t post about that.
There are a lot of Instagram famous accounts that don’t post any of that. None of that is “real life”. It’s a setup, staged to gain followers.
However, some people are so passionate about fashion and use Instagram to promote that. You can always tell who cares about fashion, and who just wants to be Instagram famous.
If you really love fashion, then go for it! But if you feel more alive talking about sustainability, post about that instead.
Rachael from @readingbringsjoy posts about books because, like her username says, reading brings her joy! She has nearly 50,000 followers on Instagram, enough to make $500 from each sponsored ad. Doing one a week is a great weekly wage, and definitely puts her on the path to Instagram fame!
On the other hand, @lenasaibel declares herself as a fashion Instagrammer. She has 152,000 followers, so that can be classed as Instagram famous. However, she has a very creative take on sharing her favorite outfits and pieces! Every single shot is creative and of top quality, which brings us to our next point.
3. Quality Is Key
If you want to achieve Instagram fame, this might be the most important step.
You need to make sure that every single one of your posts is of top quality. That means no filler posts, no half-hearted shots, and no bad angles. This is your art gallery to achieve the very lifestyle you desire.
Don’t waste it posting a mediocre photo just so you can say you’ve posted that day. It’s better to skip a day – or five – while you perfect your next shot.
Linh from @withlovelinh regularly takes long breaks from Instagram. When she returns, she always has a top-quality post to share which attracts a lot of attention from her dedicated followers.
So quality over quantity, always.
4. Know The Basic Tips And Tricks To Grow On Instagram
Besides all the deeper stuff, it’s important to know the basics on Instagram.
- Hashtags. Be sure to use relevant hashtags that aren’t too oversaturated or underused. Get the perfect medium.
- Post at a time when engagement is highest. You can see your insights if you switch to a business profile. It takes two minutes and is completely free! You’ll see a graph there which shows when the best time to post on Instagram is.
- Know your audience. If your audience reacts better to certain posts than others, track the engagement and post what you and they both love.
- Utilize your Instagram stories. Post 4-10 times every day on Instagram stories to increase engagement. Ask questions, use stickers and reply to your DMs.
- Ask questions in your captions. If you’re not going to do that every day, make sure your caption opening is short, sweet and eye-catching.
- Engage! It’s so important to engage with your followers and accounts you follow, even if they don’t follow you back. Reply to all of your DMs and comments, preferably within the hour of posting.
- Have a killer bio. It’s the first thing people see when visiting your page so make sure it’s easy to read and has enough information about your account.
- Perfect your Instagram theme. Having consistent colors and styles is important. Your followers want to know what they’re getting from your account so consistency is key. That doesn’t mean you have to stay the same though. Feel free to change your theme every few months!
5. Develop Your Own Hashtag To Get Instagram Famous
This is a common theme across Instagram famous folk. Create a hashtag to encourage your followers to use. It needs to be for something specific: either a certain type of photo or a really exciting movement.
For example, @thebibliotheque created a hashtag called #bookster. Her followers use this for cool bookish photos.
The hashtag has been used 114,000 times. @thebibliotheque has 77,000 followers!
It creates a tight-knit community amongst your followers, so try and utilize this when you have a bigger following, even around 2,000 followers!
6. Be Flexible
We previously mentioned that you don’t have to keep things the same on Instagram. It’s perfectly okay to rebrand your entire page. In fact, it might actually help you grow your account.
You can change your theme, what you post about, your bio, your caption style, and even your username to continue your growth on Instagram. You might notice your followers engaging more with your experimental photos than your original photos. This is the perfect opportunity to make a change, but only if that’s what you want.
7. Start Working With Brands
Once you have a few thousand followers, you can start working with brands. The first few times you do, try it out on a gifted basis. This just means they give you a free item in exchange for a couple of posts. This takes the pressure out of it because you’re not getting paid, so it’s not technically a job.
You can reach out to brands on Instagram. Start by finding brands that have fewer followers than you so that there’s a huge appeal in them choosing you to promote their posts. You can easily find brands in the shop section of Instagram.
Make sure that you choose brands that fit with your style. If you post about shoes and makeup, it might be a bit surprising if you start posting ads about gardening tools! Your followers will not necessarily be able to trust those recommendations since you never talked about them before.
Once you’ve done a few collaborations with smaller brands, you can try and find an agency in your country that gets jobs for Instagram influencers. The more brands you work with, the bigger you’ll grow on Instagram because brands will be more likely to repost your photos!
Once you start making enough money on Instagram, you can definitely state that you are Instagram famous.
8. Consistency Is Key
Consistency doesn’t mean always posting the same thing. In fact, consistency just means being trustworthy and reliable on Instagram, whether that’s posting at the same time every week, always maintaining the same kind of relationship with your followers, and finishing what you started.
For example, if you begin a series on Instagram reviewing different brands of mascara and you decide to post once a week about it, then make sure you do that until the very end of the series.
People are creatures of habit that return to specific places for a repeat prescription of what they like, so make sure that your Instagram hosts that!
9. Quick Cheat: Get More Followers
If you find yourself stuck in a bit of a rut, don’t worry. You, of course, want to grow your following and there are great ways to do that.
But there is one thing you should never do: buy Instagram followers.
Don’t buy Instagram followers to get Instagram famous. We repeat, do not buy Instagram followers.
If you want more followers quick, host a shoutout session on your page! Offer 20 or 30 shoutouts in return for your followers shouting you out. Host a shoutout session for 24 hours while your followers shoutout your feed in their stories. Return the favor the following day. You will see your following increase drastically over this time!
This is a great tool to do with your followers before like attracts like. If you post about plants, and so do your followers, then their followers must also like plants, which means they’re preaching to the choir and bringing more plant lovers to your plant-obsessed Instagram page!
10. Don’t Give Up
It might take you 5 years to reach 100,000 followers on Instagram, and that’s okay. Don’t ever rely on Instagram for your job until you’re super secure in it. Keep your day job, post regularly, be passionate and watch those numbers grow, if you’re following all these steps, of course.
You can do this!
